Michelada

Michelada

Micheladas are not new but it is surprising how many people I talk to have not even heard of the drink. This cocktail got its start in Mexico and has spread in popularity through out Latin-America, up through Texas and the remaining United Sates. Michelada translated means “my cold beer” or “my frozen beer”. There are many many many variations of this recipe but this one seems to be the most consistently popular version. Feel free to experiment. It’s a very refreshing drink with a spicy kick. If you want to get the party started, add an ounce of tequila as well.

INGREDIENTS:

  • 1 large chilled mug
  • juice of 1/2 lime
  • pinch of coarse salt
  • 5 or 6 ice cubes
  • 1 or 2 dashes of Crystal’s Hot Sauce
  • 1 dash Maggi seasoning
  • 2 or 3 dashes of Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 oz clamato juice or tomato juice
  • 1 Mexican beer (Negro Modelo, or Tecate will do but they will taste different)

Try rimming the mug with a mixture of coarse salt and desert dust (found here).
